Black History Month

at Democracy Prep Public Schools

While we celebrate Black Excellence every day at Democracy Prep, Black History Month offers us the opportunity to place an even greater emphasis on exposing our scholars to examples of "success that looks like them."

Through our BHM programming, we instill a deepened sense of pride and belonging in our scholars, as well as an appreciation for the countless ways they can defy limitations, redefine success, raise the bar for excellence, and change the world.

In a time when blackness is at once marginalized and commodified, we have an opportunity and an obligation to show our scholars examples of trailblazers (both iconic and unknown) who have traveled similar life paths. Moreover, we should continue to celebrate our young people as they strive to become new role models for future generations. We are blessed with the privilege of shaping the minds of the descendants of a grand and complex history.
